Everton 0 Liverpool 2: Ref Martin Atkinson got it all wrong

On a day where everyone looked forward to a cracking Merseyside encounter, Referee Martin Atkinson had other ideas. Atkinson banished a quick red card to Everton's Jack Rodwell for a challenge in which he won the ball!

From my point of view, it would have still be controversial if Atkinson showed a yellow card, for what would be rightfully described as a clash of bodies after Rodwell had played the ball. He effectively killed of the joy of a great encounter.

Not at all surprising, the Leeds official has given 14 red cards in the Premier League since the start of 2010/11, more than any other referee. There have been 19 red cards in this fixture, more than in any other match up in Premier League history, 10 of those coming in the last 13 meetings.

The level of officiating has been below par this season and Atkinson is a good reason why.

Liverpool, typically on the short end of the referee stick find themselves lucky today. I can't lie, being a Liverpool fan I love the 3 points, but not when gifted by a referee. I prefer the old fashion way.

Get it right Refs!
